Computer Depenency?

Here’s a quick test for you to take.

This just proves that we have become too dependent on our computers.

Are you male or female?

Now back to your regularly scheduled ‘stuff’ 🙂

I was wondering how long it would take…

This says it much better than I can… There are a whole bunch of us who stay silent, vote what we believe, and don’t go on TV to promote ourselves…

http://www.aspentimes.com/article/2008198091324

There is a great amount of interest in this year’s presidential elections, as everybody seems to recognize that our next president has to be a lot better than George Bush. The Democrats are riding high with two groundbreaking candidates — a woman and an African-American — while the conservative Republicans are in a quandary about their party’s nod to a quasi-liberal maverick, John McCain.

Each candidate is carefully pandering to a smorgasbord of special-interest groups, ranging from gay, lesbian and transgender people to children of illegal immigrants to working mothers to evangelical Christians.

There is one group no one has recognized, and it is the group that will decide the election: the Angry White Man.

The Angry White Man comes from all economic backgrounds, from dirt-poor to filthy rich. He represents all geographic areas in America, from urban sophisticate to rural redneck, deep South to mountain West, left Coast to Eastern Seaboard.

His common traits are that he isn’t looking for anything from anyone — just the promise to be able to make his own way on a level playing field. In many cases, he is an independent businessman and employs several people. He pays more than his share of taxes and works hard.

The victimhood syndrome buzzwords — “disenfranchised,” “marginalized” and “voiceless” — don’t resonate with him. “Press ‘one’ for English” is a curse-word to him. He’s used to picking up the tab, whether it’s the company Christmas party, three sets of braces, three college educations or a beautiful wedding.

He believes the Constitution is to be interpreted literally, not as a “living document” open to the whims and vagaries of a panel of judges who have never worked an honest day in their lives. The Angry White Man owns firearms, and he’s willing to pick up a gun to defend his home and his country. He is willing to lay down his life to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone who needs killing really doesn’t bother him.

The Angry White Man is not a metrosexual, a homosexual or a victim. Nobody like him drowned in Hurricane Katrina — he got his people together and got the hell out, then went back in to rescue those too helpless and stupid to help themselves, often as a police officer, a National Guard soldier or a volunteer firefighter.

His last name and religion don’t matter. His background might be Italian, English, Polish, German, Slavic, Irish, or Russian, and he might have Cherokee, Mexican, or Puerto Rican mixed in, but he considers himself a white American.

He’s a man’s man, the kind of guy who likes to play poker, watch football, hunt white-tailed deer, call turkeys, play golf, spend a few bucks at a strip club once in a blue moon, change his own oil and build things. He coaches baseball, soccer and football teams and doesn’t ask for a penny. He’s the kind of guy who can put an addition on his house with a couple of friends, drill an oil well, weld a new bumper for his truck, design a factory and publish books. He can fill a train with 100,000 tons of coal and get it to the power plant on time so that you keep the lights on and never know what it took to flip that light switch.

Women either love him or hate him, but they know he’s a man, not a dishrag. If they’re looking for someone to walk all over, they’ve got the wrong guy. He stands up straight, opens doors for women and says “Yes, sir” and “No, ma’am.”

He might be a Republican and he might be a Democrat; he might be a Libertarian or a Green. He knows that his wife is more emotional than rational, and he guides the family in a rational manner.

He’s not a racist, but he is annoyed and disappointed when people of certain backgrounds exhibit behavior that typifies the worst stereotypes of their race. He’s willing to give everybody a fair chance if they work hard, play by the rules and learn English.

Most important, the Angry White Man is pissed off. When his job site becomes flooded with illegal workers who don’t pay taxes and his wages drop like a stone, he gets righteously angry. When his job gets shipped overseas, and he has to speak to some incomprehensible idiot in India for tech support, he simmers. When Al Sharpton comes on TV, leading some rally for reparations for slavery or some such nonsense, he bites his tongue and he remembers. When a child gets charged with carrying a concealed weapon for mistakenly bringing a penknife to school, he takes note of who the local idiots are in education and law enforcement.

He also votes, and the Angry White Man loathes Hillary Clinton. Her voice reminds him of a shovel scraping a rock. He recoils at the mere sight of her on television. Her very image disgusts him, and he cannot fathom why anyone would want her as their leader. It’s not that she is a woman. It’s that she is who she is. It’s the liberal victim groups she panders to, the “poor me” attitude that she represents, her inability to give a straight answer to an honest question, his tax dollars that she wants to give to people who refuse to do anything for themselves.

There are many millions of Angry White Men. Four million Angry White Men are members of the National Rifle Association, and all of them will vote against Hillary Clinton, just as the great majority of them voted for George Bush.

He hopes that she will be the Democratic nominee for president in 2008, and he will make sure that she gets beaten like a drum.

Scammer gets his just desserts…

Daddy, what did you do on Valentine’s Day? Well honey, I sat in a hotel room in Tucson and read 40+ pages of forum stuff about a scammer that hit the WRONG person…

If you dont feel like reading the whole 49+ pages at SVT Performance, here is a summary of the scammer takedown:

E-thug ripped a guy of for a cell phone to the tune of about $400. The problem is the guy is a member of a car forum so he posts up that he’s been ripped off. He is in Kentucky, the perp is in New Jersey; within a few minutes, folks in New Jersey get to work and all his stuff (his address, phone number, email, drivers licsense, and social security number) is posted up, along with his picture and myspace location. This guy has apparently ripped off many people, including a bunch of students at Howard Univ in DC.

As things progress, the scammer is innundated with email, pictures of his house show up in the thread, and the linking begins…

First it goes to the other Ford Mustang sites, then starts branching out- Chevy, Dodge, Pontiac, Buick and motorcycle forum people start dropping in. Next it starts hitting the gun forums and who knows where else it is by now…

In five days, over 136,000 hits, 1212 replies, action by everyone BUT the local police, even after a few calls. The scammer begs and even sends the phone he promised the guy, but as of yet, no confirmation of delivery.

Moral of the story, scammers CAN be brought down by people working together… Car forums especially have large diverse memberships that pretty much cover the US (in fact one of the SVTP members literally lives down the street from the scammer); if not the world. Most forums are usually close knit groups, bonded by a common interest (cars, guns, who knows what). They are also adept at assisting others in the forum to get items, trade items (some of which are ‘quite’ expensive), trade tips and tricks on any number of things.

Also, none of them like to be ripped off, and usually have ways of dealing with scammers either officially or un-officially. However, this one is one of the only ones I have seen go this wide-spread in such a short period of time.

I, on the other hand, am the beneficiary of the positive side of forums…

As some of you know, I won a turn-in M40A1 stock in a drawing, and was convinced (beaten about the head and shoulders repeatedly) to build it out to a replica M40A1.

Trying to find pieces/parts for something like that is a near impossibility, or so I thought. When word went around the forum that I was going to build the stock out, I got emails not just from friends, but from people I had never met offering advice, parts or locations of parts, suppliers, etc.

I had one gentleman email me that I needed to email a guy in Vegas, that he had the correct bottom metal, and I could have it instead of his buying it…

I literally had one gentleman from Alaska sell me the action out of his rifle, because it is the correct period and type; he also threw in a period correct scope mount. When I asked him if it was a spare, he told me, “Well, I was planning on trying a new action anyway.”

This was a man I have never met, and only talked to on the phone after we made the deal!

A friend in Arkansas, whom I had not told about winning the stock, got an email from someone else, and found a period correct sling for the rifle- (needless to say, I caught a little crap about not telling him).

Bottom line- Forums can help you with ANY number of problems, and can put paid to a lot of these scammers if people will ask for help!!!!

A response to the idjits in Berkeley

You’ve gotta drop by First In and read the entry from Capt. America about Brian G Dennard, Principal Director, Meridian Development Group, LLC letter to Berkeley. MDG is a huge player in the high end yachting world (not that I’ll ever see one). Mr. Dennard puts Berkeley on notice that there WILL be a financial impact!

Thank you Captain and thank you Mr. Dennard for standing up for our Marines and all the other members of the Armed Forces!

I’ll take it…

Woke up at oh dark 30 this morning as the wind started, so I figured what the hey… This is gonna be an inside day. I was doing real good; laundry, and all the other crap I really hate to do. About 9;30 a friend calls, “Hey, it’s not THAT bad outside, lets go shoot something.”

Drop everything, grab the gun bag and out the door I go…

Well, it’s about 40 degrees and windy, not too bad… So we spent two hours popping caps at targets and plates.

Did I mention it was windy? It’s pretty bad when you hear the wind whistling AND you have ears on…

Fingers were turning blue, along with exposed body parts, so I decided to drag out the carry piece and rotate my mags for it.

I’ll take this ANY day! G26, 10 yards, 19 of 20 in the COM… Hell, I don’t normally shoot this good when it’s warm and dry… Did I mention it was windy…

I have become fascinated by the expressed and exhibited bias in the media.

Watching CNN this morning, according to them the Republican party is in meltdown because Romney dropped out. They are harping on the fact that McCain cannot possibly be a conservative because he associated with the Dems on bills, and because of the failed amnesty bill. They downplayed Obama, gave lots of airtime to Hillbilly, and poo-poo’ed Obama’s wins yesterday. They pushed Hillbilly as the ‘probable’ nominee.

Flipped over to Fox, completely different storys on both parties. Fox acknowledged Republican issues, talked about conciliation, Mike Wallace interviewed GW Bush, who spoke highly of McCain. On the dem side, gave pretty much equal time to both Obama and Hillbilly; indicating it could be a fight to the finish at the convention and that both Florida and Michigan (who were booted), could in fact be the deciding votes.

On a lighter note- Dan Snyder can’t find a head coach who is willing to work for him, so he promoted Jim Zorn (ex-Seattle quarterback), wh0 was originally hired as the offensive coach, to head coach. Now Zorn has spent the last seven years as a quarterback coach, has no major coaching experience, and has never been a head coach… LOVE IT!!!! Dallas should beat the hell outta the deadskins for sure now… 🙂

When insults had class…

These are simply too good to keep to myself…

When Insults Had Class

These glorious insults are from an era before a great portion of the English language got boiled down to 4-letter words, not to mention waving middle fingers.

The exchange between Churchill & Lady Astor: She said, ‘If you were my Husband I’d give you poison,’ and he said, ‘If you were my wife, I’d drink it.’

A member of Parliament to Disraeli: ‘Sir, you will either die on the Gallows or of some unspeakable disease.’ ‘That depends, Sir,’ said Disraeli, ‘on whether I embrace your policies or your mistress.’

10 more months of misery…

Gleeful pronuciation by one of the talking heads today, “It doesn’t look like the presidential nominees will be decided until the conventions.”

ARGHHHH!!!! NO….no…. whimper….

Reminder to self: Get Lexan screen for TV in case I decide to throw something at it…

Huh, just heard Hillbilly had to loan herself $5M a couple of months ago to continue her campaign. Wonder why it’s just now coming out? Is she getting a free pass on anything and everything? I thought you had to declare that stuff… Campaign finances and all that, ya know…

I really wonder what would happen if there was no bad news? Would the talking heads go silent???

If nobody voted, would there be an election? There would probably be the one asshat that didn’t get the word, and of course he would vote democrap 4200 times…

Anyhoo… The stock market is tanking, down again today, so my retirement nest egg has probably shrunk to about the size of a sperm! sigh…

An interesting commentary though, some analyst think the market jitters are primarily because neither party can make up it’s tiny assed mind on a candidate, so the market doesn’t know which way to jump. If it’s McCain, defense up; if it Hillbilly, health up. Since they are mutually exclusive, nobody does anything…

On a sad note, two more women were raped in the Arlington/Fairfax County area last night and this morning. Last night one woman was walking down a sidewalk, talking on her cell phone when attacked. The other one was in a apparently unlocked apartment.

Ladies, PLEASE, PLEASE pay attention to your surroundings! Earbuds, cellphones, etc. ARE ASKING FOR TROUBLE!!!!

If you are out by yourselves, please pay attention to your surroundings, look at people approaching you, look around often, especially in areas where there are alerts. If you have a carry permit, use it! If you are out walking in jogging clothes, use a fanny pack; they are cheap and while they may not match your outfit, they will carry whatever size pistol you choose.

At home, please lock your doors! Trusting your neighbors is one thing, but the random asshole off the street is something else.

Ladies, as much as I admire your independence and desire for equality, please take adequate measures and use common sense to protect yourselves. The police cannot be everywhere and protect everyone all the time.

Step away from the Television

Well the feeding frenzy is over for another year…

You- step away from the television- All the replays in the world won’t help you…

Yes, the hated Giants beat the even more hated Patriots. Now we have to listen to Miami (again) with their undefeated season claims… sigh…

I haven’t even read the sports page, cause I ‘know’ it’s full of the apologists for the Patriots and why they didn’t win; along with the other columnists who pronounce with great aplomb how the “called this six months ago…. BS…

It appears the sports bookies are the only ones who made out- something like 150+ THINGS you could bet on surrounding the game, one of which was an over/under on how long the girl singing the National Anthem would take (1:41 was the break point).

Speaking of which, I’m kinda glad the Patriots lost, when the anthem was playing, half of them were scratching their asses, and the other half were looking around the stands. At least the Giants had enough courage to salute properly.

What ever the Patriots coaches name is, he showed absoutely no class by leaving the field early. I guess that is typical of his behaviour though.

Now if the Cowboys could just get their act together.,. 🙂 Ah well, there is always a next year.

Nascar is back in two weeks, so at least there will be SOMETHING on TV worth watching… Baseball, basketball, soccer, fighting…er hockey… who cares…

Step away from the television, go out and actually DO something- Take a walk, go play sports yourself, go to the shooting range, but GET OUT OF THE #%^& HOUSE for awhile…

You may now resume your regularly scheduled political crap for the next 10 months… sigh…

What the #$%* over????

Now THIS is just plain ridiculous!!!!!

You can read the rest of the BS article in the Oakland Tribune

BERKELEY — Hey-hey, ho-ho, the Marines in Berkeley have got to go.

That’s the message from the Berkeley City Council, which voted 6-3, with Gordon Wozniak, Betty Olds and Kriss Worthington dissenting, to tell the Marines that its Shattuck Avenue recruiting station “is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders.”

It also voted 7-2, with Wozniak and Olds dissenting, to explore enforcing its law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation against the Marines and to encourage the women’s peace group Code Pink to protest in front of the station.

In a separate item, the council voted 8-1 to give Code Pink a designated parking space in front of the recruiting station once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week from noon to 4 p.m.

I can pretty much imagine the Commandant’s reaction- Plenty of expletives, closely followed by direction to ignore these idiots and their resolution. As far as I know, this kind of BS is still trumped by Federal Law, which DOES permit recruiting stations to locate pretty much anywhere they want to and are willing to pay rent.

It’s probably a good thing I’m not in Congress, cause I’d be looking at every %^*& penny going to Berkley and figuring out a way to get that funding cancelled…

Sigh…

What are these idiots smoking??? And can I get some??? Obliviously they don’t live in the real world with the rest of us!

The consider themselves to be better than us, more progressive, more everything, better… etc.

I’m beginning to wonder if there is a way to kick Kalifornia out of the US… Can we give it to Mexico? Yeah, yeah, that’s it, lets give it to Mexico! Then lets see how good they really are a dealing with the real world where free speech is NOT an option and government and law enforcement corruption is even more rampant than it already is in Kalifornia.

Cut off ALL Federal $$ going to the entire state, close all the bases, shut down the airports, close all the roads, set up border patrol stations at oh, maybe one or two locations- Say Truckee on the North and Needles on the South and tell those idiots to have a nice life…

I know, I know… If wishes were horses, beggars would be riding…

And my fifth Monday in a row was going SO well…
